Since 1999, National Dam Safety Program research funds have been allocated to workshops in specific areas. This page provides an overview of those workshops and links to the findings that came out of them. It is meant to serve as a resource for anyone interested in the topic of Dam Safety and related research.
The following eight workshops encourage research and make significant contributions to improving the safety and security of dams throughout the United States:
- Seepage through Embankment Dams (FEMA 535)
A report on the workshop on issues, solutions, and research needs related to seepage through embankment dams. - Dam Spillways (FEMA 536)
A workshop report that documents the state-of-practice concerning cost-effective techniques of dam service and emergency spillways. - Spillway Gates (FEMA 537)
This workshop report documents lessons learned from the Folsom tainter gate failure and applies those lessons across the broad spectrum of spillway gates. - Hydrologic Issues for Dams (FEMA 538)
This workshop report documents expert findings in the areas of risk analysis, standards, and meteorological needs. - Outlet Works (FEMA 539)
