Environmental Requirements to Apply for FEMA Funding

When a community applies for FEMA funding — such as Public Assistance, Hazard Mitigation Assistance or Preparedness Grants — potential impacts to the environment and cultural resources must be considered.

Risk Mapping, Assessment and Planning (Risk MAP) is a national FEMA program that works with states, tribes, territories and local communities to evaluate and better understand their current flood risk, as well as the actions that can be taken to mitigate and become more resilient against future risk.

FEMA announced that federal disaster assistance has been made available to the state of California to supplement recovery efforts in the areas affected by Tropical Storm Hilary, August 19-21, 2023.

A determination letter is sent when your application is missing information such as proof of identity, proof you own your home, or proof you lived in your home for a major part of the year before the Aug. 8 wildfires on Maui.

FEMA’s Other Needs Assistance program offers financial support for essential disaster-related needs. For survivors of the Aug. 8 wildfires on Maui, the program covers personal and household items. If you had damage or losses from the wildfires and have been unable to receive monetary resources from insurance or voluntary agencies, this program may provide the support you need.
