Ms. Klukas brings to FEMA a combined 25 years of experience in federal service and as a community practitioner in developing initiatives and programs of scale. During her tenure with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), she served in various capacities and used her community development background and education to leverage ideas and implement new programs to support DEA’s community and stakeholder engagement efforts. Her knowledge of federal processes and program development experience in the federal government enabled her to launch national programs and institutionalize standardized processes for duplication and replication. Ms. Klukas also served a two-year term appointment with the U.S. Treasury Department as a Community Consultant under the President’s Financial Literacy Council, serving both the Bush and Obama Administrations. Previously, Ms. Klukas served as the first Partnership Officer with the Office of Justice Programs at the Justice Department. In this role, Ms. Klukas served as an advisor to the Director on national programs and strategic partnerships to enhance community and organizational capacity. Ms. Klukas received several awards for her achievements in forming national and sustainable partnerships and programs for the Justice Department.
Prior to joining the federal government, Ms. Klukas held leadership positions with non-profit organizations to include the University of Minnesota’s Business and Economic Development Center, Summit Academy Industrialize Center, the Boys and Girls Clubs of St. Paul, and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Minneapolis. Ms. Klukas’ career and contributions have been about living a life of purpose focused on building community and capacity development efforts for diverse socio-economic individuals and families, including people with disabilities.
Ms. Klukas was adopted from Guatemala and raised in Minnesota. She stays active and enjoys outdoor recreational activities such as mountain biking and paddle boarding. Ms. Klukas also has a passion for landscape photography which take her on many road trips and travel throughout the U.S and abroad. Ms. Klukas holds a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations from the University of Minnesota and a Master’s in Education from Concordia University in St. Paul, Minnesota.
