Alexia Nastasia
Youth Preparedness Council

Region 7 - Missouri

Alexia is a high school graduate from Missouri. As a returning member of the YPC, she has worked with her peers to raise awareness about the importance of providing resources for disaster preparedness by presenting to various high school clubs, community organizations, and advisory councils. Alexia works with fellow YPC members to plan and implement national activities, including a national youth webinar on summer vacation safety.

As she continues her work with the YPC, she hopes to become more involved in equity efforts that ensure broad and transparent access to emergency preparedness resources for underserved communities. Her participation at school and in her community focuses on ensuring that youth receive the resources they need and engaging her peers in addressing inequality. Alexia is actively involved in the Student Life Advisory Committee of her school system’s board of education, the cabinet of the Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri, the U.S. Department of State’s Youth Ambassadors Program, and the Student Advisory Board of Girls Learn International.

Through her extensive involvement with her community, Alexia has come to believe that society’s problems can only be solved when everyone’s voices are included. She wants to ensure that the future of preparedness planning incorporates perspectives from youth, ethnic and racial minorities, and new immigrants. More broadly, she hopes to forge a mission-driven path that increases cross-cultural understanding and leads to a more sustainable global community.

Alexia is planning a gap year in Senegal to participate in the U.S. Department of State’s YES Abroad Program. She will then attend Boston University to pursue interdisciplinary study in international affairs, anthropology, political science, and pre-law. She hopes to continue pursuing her community engagement and leadership opportunities throughout college.
