ST. PAUL– Attention: Minnesotans affected by the June 16 – July 4 severe storms and flooding. Do not delay any longer to apply for FEMA federal disaster assistance. The deadline to apply is three days away on October 27, 2024.

Homeowners and renters in Minnesota counties designated for FEMA individual assistance may apply in one of three ways:

  1. Go online to DisasterAssistance.gov.
  2. Use the FEMA mobile app.
  3. Call the FEMA helpline at 800-621-3362 between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m. Multilingual operators are available. If you use video relay service, captioned telephone service or others, give FEMA your number for that service.

FEMA assistance may cover rental expenses, temporary housing, home repairs, personal property losses and other disaster-related needs. FEMA grants do not have to be repaid. FEMA assistance is non-taxable and will not affect eligibility for Social Security, Medicaid, or other benefits.

By law, FEMA can't provide benefits for losses covered by insurance. If your insurance settlement is delayed, you may apply for FEMA assistance. Any funds received from FEMA in this case are considered an advance and must be repaid. You may also apply for FEMA assistance if you still have unmet disaster-caused needs after your final insurance settlement.
