BOSTON – The Federal Emergency Management Agency will be sending more than $1 million to the State of Connecticut to reimburse Greenwich Hospital for the additional costs of operating safely during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The $1,030,958 FEMA Public Assistance grant to the Yale New Haven Health System-affiliated teaching hospital will reimburse it for the additional costs of operating in a pandemic environment between October 2020 and September 2021.
The expenses incurred included purchasing additional medical equipment and ventilators for the treatment of COVID-19 patients; purchasing personal protective equipment (PPE), disinfection services and supplies; and the cost of purchasing information technology hardware and software.
“FEMA is pleased to be able to assist Greenwich Hospital with these costs,” said FEMA Region 1 Regional Administrator Lori Ehrlich. “Providing resources for our partners on the front lines of the pandemic fight is critical to their success, and our success as a nation.”
FEMA’s Public Assistance program is an essential source of funding for states and communities recovering from a federally declared disaster or emergency.
So far, FEMA has provided more than $471 million in Public Assistance grants to Connecticut to reimburse the state for pandemic-related expenses.
