BOSTON – The Federal Emergency Management Agency will be sending nearly $1.2 million to the State of Connecticut to reimburse Bristol Hospital and Healthcare Group for the additional costs of operating safely during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The $1,170,856 FEMA Public Assistance grant to the hospital and health network will reimburse it for the additional costs of paying staff overtime between March 2020 and November 2021.

Bristol Hospital and Healthcare Group offered voluntarily hours at premium pay to its qualified employees (direct care registered nurses, licensed clinical staff, and clinical support staff) as an incentive to work extra hours in addition to the employees’ regularly scheduled shifts.

“FEMA is pleased to be able to assist the Bristol Hospital with these costs,” said FEMA Region 1 Regional Administrator Lori Ehrlich. “Providing resources for our partners on the front lines of the pandemic fight is critical to their success, and our success as a nation.”

FEMA’s Public Assistance program is an essential source of funding for states and communities recovering from a federally declared disaster or emergency.

So far, FEMA has provided more than $471 million in Public Assistance grants to Connecticut to reimburse the state for pandemic-related expenses.
