MIDLAND, Mich. — Only five days remain for disaster survivors in Bay, Gladwin, and Isabella, including the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe, and Midland counties to apply for disaster assistance. Officials want to make sure no eligible applicant is overlooked.

The Oct. 2 registration deadline is fast approaching. Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) officials are making every effort to ensure eligible residents are aware of FEMA disaster assistance. FEMA has used television, radio, newspapers, social media, flyers, and door-to-door visits to get the word out.

Disaster recovery requires the whole community’s participation to recover fully. “We’re hoping the public will help us spread the message,” said Jason Blum, deputy federal coordinating officer. “Please remind family, friends, and neighbors affected by this storm to contact FEMA by Oct. 2 if they have not already done so.”

Eligible residents affected by the June 22—June 27, 2017 storms and flooding should apply at www.DisasterAssistance.gov or by using the FEMA App on a smart phone. To register by phone call 800-621-3362; (TTY) 800-462-7585. Those who use 711 or Video Relay Services can call 800-621-3362 to register. Operators are multilingual and are available from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. EDT seven days a week.

The extraordinary events of Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, and Maria may cause delays on the FEMA helpline. Michigan flood survivors can choose to go to one of the Disaster Recovery Centers (DRCs) in Isabella and Midland counties, where a FEMA specialist will help you in person.

DRCs are open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and will close permanently at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 30.
