WASHINGTON — The whole-of-America response to fighting the COVID-19 pandemic continues, as federal and state leaders toured a food distribution center in Laurel, Maryland, and the hospital ship USNS Mercy departed Los Angeles after serving as a referral hospital for non-COVID-19 patients.  

In support of the White House Task Force’s testing initiative, FEMA is supporting the procurement of specimen collection supplies to supplement the supplies states and healthcare providers are procuring from the private market. FEMA has procured and delivered 4.1 million swabs and 2.3 million media so far in the month of May.

As of May 14, Project Airbridge has completed 142 flights with an additional 61 flights scheduled or in transit.  Two flights are scheduled to land today, one in Chicago and one in Los Angeles.

Through Project Airbridge, the following supplies have been delivered from overseas manufacturers to the U.S. and into private sector supply chains from March 29 to May 14:

  • More than 1.4 million N-95 masks.
  • More than 921 million gloves.
  • More than 97.4 million surgical masks.
  • More than 17.1 million surgical gowns.
  • More than 2.4 million thermometers.
  • More than 1.2 million face shields.
  • More than 392,000 coveralls.
  • More than 109,000 stethoscopes
  • More than 370,000 oxygen masks.
  • More than 250,000 swabs.
  • More than 160,000 cannulas.

To date, FEMA, HHS, and the private sector combined have coordinated the delivery of or are currently shipping: 92.7 million N-95 respirators, 133 million surgical masks, 10.5 million face shields, 22.5 million surgical gowns and 99.9 million gloves.

As of May 14, FEMA has obligated more than $6.1 billion to assist with emergency protective measures. In the past 24 hours that amount includes:

  • $1.5 million for Arizona.
  • $17.3 million for California.
  • $56.7 million for Texas.

Hospital Ship USNS Mercy Departs Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES (May 15, 2020) — USNS Mercy departs Los Angeles, after completing a deployment supporting the nation's COVID-19 response efforts.  The ship served as a referral hospital for non-COVID-19 patients admitted to shore-based hospitals, allowing medical personnel at those facilities to focus their efforts on COVID-19 cases.

Utah National Guard Assists COVID-19 Response

SALT LAKE CITY (May 14, 2020) — Members of the Utah National Guard sort medical supplies at a staging warehouse. Over 120 Utah National Guard soldiers and airmen are assisting in the COVID-19 response, including supply and warehouse management, logistics and testing.

N.D. National Guardsmen Support Drive-thru Testing Site

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (May 14, 2020) — North Dakota National Guard soldiers and airmen join N.D. Department of Health personnel to administer COVID-19 testing at a drive-thru site. The soldiers and airmen are partnering with the N.D. Department of Health and other civilian agencies to support the COVID-19 community response.

FEMA Supports Community Outreach for Poultry Workers

SEAFORD, Del. (May 14, 2020) — A FEMA emergency manager assists Delaware Public Health and the Delaware National Guard during concentrated testing and community outreach for nearby poultry plants on the Delmarva Peninsula. Over 500 people were tested, given care kits with cleaning supplies and educational materials.
