WASHINGTON — The whole-of-America response to fighting the COVID-19 pandemic continued through the weekend and today, as another FEMA Project Airbridge flight landed in Chicago with critical medical supplies, such as N-95 respirators, surgical masks, gloves and gowns.  Meanwhile, U.S. Army National Guardsmen in New York and Atlanta helped support food distribution in their public school districts.

FEMA continues to expedite movement of commercially pre-sourced and commercially procured critical supplies from the global market to medical distributors in various locations across the U.S. through Project Airbridge.

As of April 19, 66 flights have been completed to expedite movement of both private sector distributor-procured supplies (Project Airbridge) and federal government-procured supplies. An additional 49-plus flights are scheduled.

To date, FEMA, HHS, and the private sector combined have coordinated the delivery of or are currently shipping: 57.4 million N95 respirators, 77.9 million surgical masks, 6.2 million face shields, 11.9 million surgical gowns, 587 million gloves, 10,998 ventilators and 8,450 federal medical station beds.

FEMA has obligated $5.7 billion in support of COVID-19 efforts, including this week:

  • $9 million to California
  • $3 million to Colorado
  • $14 million to South Carolina

FEMA Project Airbridge Flight Arrives in Chicago for COVID-19 Support

CHICAGO (April 19, 2020) — A FEMA Project Airbridge flight arrives at Chicago O’Hare International Airport with medical supplies for distribution by companies nationwide in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. FEMA is chartering planes to bring supplies for companies to decrease the shipping time for critical supplies, such as N-95 respirators, surgical masks, gloves and gowns.

National Guard Soldiers Assist Food Distribution in the Bronx, NY

NEW YORK (April 18, 2020) — New York Army National Guard Soldiers provide support to the New York City food distribution site in the Bronx.  The soldiers are assigned to the 1st Battalion, 258th Field Artillery, part of the 27th Infantry Brigade Combat Team. They are participating in a citywide effort to provide more than 1 million meals across New York City to those in need.

GA National Guardsmen Help Feed Atlanta Public School Students

ATLANTA (April 20, 2020) — Georgia Army National Guardsman, Spc. Gary Poppell, assigned to the Augusta, Georgia-based 1148th Transportation Company, unloads breakfast meals during the Atlanta Public Schools food distribution event at Douglass High School.  Georgia Guardsmen have been assisting Atlanta Public Schools for nearly two weeks, ensuring students are able to receive breakfast and lunch during the COVID-19 pandemic.
