The State of West Virginia will receive $52,304,385.75 from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for the replacement of Herbert Hoover High School, which was damaged as a result of FEMA-DR-4273-WV (Severe Storms, Flooding, Landslides and Mudslides).
The $52,304,385.75 grant represents the federal cost-share of the total project cost of $69,739,181.00. The remainder will come from non-federal sources.
This grant is funded through FEMA’s Public Assistance Grant program, which reimburses communities for actions taken in the immediate response and during recovery from a disaster. Eligible applicants include states, federally recognized tribal governments, U.S. territories, local governments and certain private nonprofit organizations. The grant applications are submitted from the state, which coordinates the process with local governments.
FEMA obligates funding for this project directly to the state. It is the state's responsibility to ensure that the eligible sub-recipient receives this award. Following the state's review process and upon receipt of appropriate documentation, funds will be provided to the sub-recipient on a reimbursable basis.
To date, FEMA has obligated over $120,572,869.27 to the state as a result of damage from the June 22-29, 2016 disaster (DR-4273) under the Public Assistance program.
