SAIPAN, MP — Workers and the self-employed whose jobs were impacted by Typhoon Mangkhut and Super Typhoon Yutu have until February 14 to apply for Disaster Unemployment Assistance (DUA).
A worker is required to file for regular unemployment, but, if they are not eligible, they may be considered for DUA.
DUA may assist self-employed individuals as well as those with conventional jobs on a case by case basis.
If a worker is no longer employed as a direct result of the typhoons, including individuals that were scheduled to start employment and were unable to begin employment as result of the typhoons, these individuals may be eligible for DUA.
Eligible applicants may apply for DUA either in person, by mail, or by phone until February 14, 2019 at the following location(s):
- Saipan: Bldg. 1334, Ascencion Drive, Capitol Hill, Saipan, MP 96950
- Tinian: Edu’s Plaza, 1st Floor, San Jose Village, Tinian, MP 96952
- Rota: Mayor’s Office, Tatachog, Rota, MP 96951
Applicants should bring a picture ID, social security number, information of employment; such as pay stubs or other verification of employment, and a letter from the employer verifying lost time due to the typhoons. Self-employed individuals should bring receipts that show their primary source of income and tax receipts as well. Individuals unable to work due to an injury suffered from the typhoons should bring a doctor's statement.
Those who are applying by phone should have their social security number available, along with the name and address of their last employer or forthcoming employer or basic information regarding their business, if self-employed.
