WASHINGTON, D.C. - FEMA is grateful to Congress and the president for the short-term extension of the National Flood Insurance Program through Dec. 7. The reauthorization of this program will allow individuals, families, businesses, and communities to purchase insurance to protect their homes and businesses from flooding, the most costly type of natural disaster in the United States. As we have witnessed over the years, floods can happen anywhere, at any time. That is why FEMA remains committed to working with our congressional colleagues on a long-term reauthorization, with reforms, for this program.
FEMA's mission is to help people prepare before, during and after disasters.
