GUAYNABO, Puerto Rico – The deadline for private non-profit (PNP) organizations in Puerto Rico to apply for FEMA Public Assistance has been extended until Tuesday, April 3.

FEMA Public Assistance provides grants to eligible government organizations and PNPs, including houses of worship, for debris removal, life-saving emergency protective measures, and the repair, replacement, or restoration of disaster-damaged facilities. The program also encourages protection of these damaged facilities from future events by providing assistance for hazard mitigation measures during the recovery process.

PNPs are encouraged to attend one of eight in-person applicant briefings hosted by the Puerto Rico Emergency Management Agency to receive detailed information and requirements for their applications. Interested attendees must register in advance by calling Judith Rosado at 787-273-8209.

To apply, PNPs should download and fill out the Request for Public Assistance - FF 90-49 form. Completed applications should be submitted to the Puerto Rico Emergency Management Agency via email to PrivateNonprofits@dcmcpartners.com or in person at any disaster recovery center in Puerto Rico.

Non-critical PNPs must also apply for an U.S. Small Business Administration loan by visiting https://disasterloan.sba.gov/ela to be eligible for permanent repairs, but should not wait to receive a letter of approval or denial from SBA before applying to FEMA. The deadline to submit an application for an SBA disaster loan is Tuesday, March 20.
