This page discusses National Flood Insurance Program training requirements for state departments of insurance.
As required by Section 207 of the Flood Insurance Reform Act of 2004, on September 1, 2005, FEMA published a notice advising all insurance agents who sell flood insurance policies through the NFIP about training and education requirements. The notice included a flood insurance course outline.
The state departments of insurance are taking various actions to establish training requirements in their states. The NFIP encourages states to implement minimum training in NFIP flood insurance as part of their general licensing standards and to assist states in improving their training and testing of agents on flood insurance matters.
