Eligible High Hazard Potential Dams


To be elgible for HHPD funding a dam must::

•Be located in a state or territory with a state/territory dam safety program;

•Be classified as ‘high hazard potential’ by the dam safety agency in the state or territory where the dam is located;

•Have an emergency action plan approved by the state or territory dam safety agency

•Fails to meet minimum dam safety standards of the state or territory; and the dam poses an unacceptable risk to the public.


The following dams are not elgible for HHPD funding: 

•Federally owned dams 

• Hydroelectric dam licensed by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission

•Dam built under the federal authority of the Secretary of Agriculture.
