The National Flood Insurance Act of 1968, as amended, and The Flood Disaster Protection Act of 1973, as amended,42 U.S.C. 4001 et. seq.
Congress implemented these acts to eventually make flood insurance coverage available on reasonable terms and conditions to persons who have need for such protection. As it can be uneconomic for the private insurance industry alone to make flood insurance available to those in need of such protection on reasonable terms and conditions, a program of flood insurance with large-scale participation of the Federal Government has been initiated.
