Region VIII: The Value of Listening in Cache County, Utah
This page describes the success that resulted from early engagement with key partners to bridge gaps, build trust, and strengthen the relationship between FEMA and the communities involved. It is intended for FEMA staff, along with state and community officials, mitigation and urban planners, and other individuals interested in how the Risk MAP program and project cycle can benefit their community by addressing the issues the community cares about the most.
Region VIII faced a challenge when going back to Cache County, Utah, to begin a new Risk MAP project due to a strained relationship with these communities that had occurred over four years earlier. The State and FEMA regional staff began to reach out to the affected communities and local officials before the Discovery phase even began in order to establish themselves as partners that could be trusted by the communities throughout the Risk MAP process.
