Region X: Working with Local Media to Raise Risk Awareness
This page describes the success that came from working with local media to increase attendance and engagement for a Resilience meeting. It is intended for FEMA staff, along with state and community officials, mitigation and urban planners, and other individuals interested in how the Risk MAP program and project cycle can benefit their community through increased participation in Risk MAP meetings.
Several challenges, including economic demands, overburdened local officials, and competing priorities typically make it a challenge to organize a diverse group of stakeholders when communities host Resilience – and other Risk MAP – meetings. Kitsap County, Washington, faced this issue in Region X as they began planning for an upcoming Resilience meeting, and needed to figure out a way to attract more participation from the community to deliver a more productive meeting.
