FEMA manages the National Flood Insurance Program which includes more than 22,600 Participating Communities. This year, FEMA’s Floodplain Management Division is conducting a survey of the nation’s Floodplain Administrators who manage local floodplains for these jurisdictions. Survey findings will inform a five-year National Floodplain Administrators Training Strategy that will be coordinated by the Floodplain Management Division.

In response to the ongoing wildfires across California and Nevada, FEMA has approved federal funding to assist local authorities in managing active wildfires, including the Airport, Boyles, Bridge, Davis, and Line Fires. This funding will help ensure firefighters can continue working to protect homes and communities.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) Region 9 Administrator authorized the use of federal funds on September 7 at 5:20 p.m. PDT / 8:20 p.m. EDT to assist the state of Nevada in combating the Davis Fire burning in Washoe County.
The Line Fire in Southern California has spread to more than 20,000 acres, forced the evacuation of thousands of homes in San Bernardino County and is threatening more than 36,000 structures. FEMA is urging residents and visitors to listen to instructions from local officials and to evacuate immediately if told to do so.
