Representatives from FEMA will host a Flood Map Information Open House for communities in Richland County, Illinois, on March 20, 2024, from 4 - 6 PM. The open house will give residents a chance to review preliminary versions of the county’s recently completed Flood Insurance Study (FIS) report and its accompanying preliminary Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs).

Through the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP), FEMA has awarded $6,000,309 to Crawford County for the construction of a multi-purpose safe room at the Crawford County High School and Middle School. The safe room will have capacity for 906 people with 7,000 usable square feet and when not in use, serve as a gym for the attached schools.

Even though Disaster Recovery Centers have closed and the deadline to apply for federal assistance has passed, FEMA is still on the ground in Illinois to help Cook County homeowners and renters recover from the Sept. 17-18, 2023 severe storms and flooding.
