FEMA mitigation specialists will be available 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday Jan. 23 to Saturday Jan. 28, to answer questions and share home-improvement tips and other proven building methods to prevent or lessen damage from future disasters. They will also share techniques for rebuilding hazard-resistant homes. This free information is geared toward do-it-yourselfers and general contractors.

Mitigation is an effort to reduce the loss of life and property damage by lessening the impact of a disaster.  Research shows every dollar spent on mitigation saves $6 on future disaster losses.
