PHILADELPHIA – FEMA has awarded more than $37 million in federal funding to the Virginia Department of Emergency Management (VDEM) to establish mobile vaccination units to support vulnerable population areas. These mobile units will allow the commonwealth to operate vaccination clinics initially to priority residents and then the general public. These mobile units will be able to administer up to 250 vaccinations per day. Additional costs covered include personal protective equipment, emergency medical supplies, medical storage equipment and support costs.
“We are thankful for this award from FEMA that assists with establishing mobile vaccination units to support vulnerable population areas all around the commonwealth,” said VDEM State Coordinator Curtis Brown. “Throughout the pandemic, we have prioritized health equity, beginning with personal protective equipment and now with our vaccination efforts.”
As of March 8, FEMA has provided more than $185 million to the Commonwealth of Virginia and over $4.27 billion to 38 states, Washington D.C., four tribes and five territories for expenses related to COVID-19 vaccination at 100% federal cost share. These funds cover critical supplies, staffing, training and transportation needs that support increased vaccination efforts.
