The Weather Channel launched a new initiative called Weather Ready, and FEMA Administrator Craig Fugate was there to discuss the agency’s role in preparing for the future of emergency management, with 100-year events occurring with greater intensity and frequency.

During the segment, he advocates building stronger on future risk modeling, than depending on historical risk models for community resilience.

“In particular, when we see climate disruptions continuing to influence things such as drought across the Southwest to record-setting storms occurring back-to-back, we need to consider the future risk and incorporate our knowledge of what may happen in the future when we build back,” he said.
