DENVER – The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has announced a federal grant for the City of Fargo that will make $3.7 million available to fund the construction of a levee, floodwall, and road raise, providing permanent flood protection for the City's Waste Water Treatment Plant. The improvements will provide protection above the 500-year floodplain elevation and enable continued service to the cities of Fargo, West Fargo, Oxbow, and other surrounding communities.
FEMA is providing 75 percent of the project costs, a total of $4.9 million. Funding is provided through FEMA’s Pre-Disaster Mitigation Grant Program, which is designed to assist states, U.S. territories, federally-recognized tribes, and local communities in implementing a sustained pre-disaster natural hazard mitigation program. The goal is to reduce overall risk to the population and structures from future hazard events, while also reducing reliance on federal funding in future disasters.
