South Carolina: Resilient Water Supply Project

Benefits: Ensures water treatment plant supply during flooding events.

alert - info

Columbia, South Carolina: $32.64 Million

History

The Columbia Canal Water Treatment Plant (WTP) serves as the primary water supply to approximately 233,000 residents. During historic flooding caused by Hurricane Joaquin in October 2015, the canal overtopped and caused a breach in the embankment that prevented the canal from retaining water and jeopardized the water supply to the water treatment plant.

Project Description

This project will construct a new raw water intake facility outside the limits of the canal to eliminate potential canal breaches that would cut off raw water supply to the plant.
