Mr. Michael S. George was appointed as the Associate Administrator for the Office of National Continuity Programs (ONCP) on September 13, 2021. In this role, Mr. George is charged with leading the Federal government’s national continuity activities; coordinating the development, implementation, execution, and assessment of the continuity programs for the Federal executive branch, and state, local, territorial, and tribal nations (FSLTT). As well as, ensuring that under all conditions, the President, FSLTT governments and agencies can provide timely and effective alerts and warnings regarding natural disaster, acts of terrorism, and other manmade disasters or threats to public safety.
FEMA’s ONCP is comprised of seven organizational elements: Policy, Plans and Evaluation Division, Continuity Implementation Division, Integrated Public Alert and Warning System Division, Department of Homeland Security Continuity Division, Continuity Communications Division, Continuity Support Division, Business Management Division; and the Mount Weather Emergency Operations Center. Prior to his appointment, Mr. George worked for the CNA Corporation and served as staff director and principal advisor to FEMA’s continuity programs.
Previously, Mr. George served in the Obama-Biden Administration as FEMA’s Deputy Chief of Staff and Counselor to the Administrator. In that capacity, he provided strategic direction and guidance, directed and oversaw activities of the executive front office, and shaped the Administrator’s strategic domestic and international engagement priorities.
Before first joining FEMA in 2010, Mr. George served in the United States Senate as Senior Advisor to U.S. Senator Paul J. Kirk and Senator Edward “Ted” M. Kennedy, and as Deputy Director for Economic Development on the U.S. Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions.
Mr. George is originally from Massachusetts and currently lives in Washington, D.C. with his partner Victoria.
