Disaster Survivor Assistance Crews Provide Survivors Help Virtually

Release Date:
septembre 8, 2020

FEMA’s Disaster Survivor Assistance (DSA) crews are providing survivors of the August 10 derecho with a means to access and apply for disaster assistance.

The virtual response is being conducted to ensure the safety of survivors and FEMA staff. DSA crews will not be going door-to-door. DSA will help survivors in different ways.

  • Through callouts to Faith Based Organizations (FBOs), Community Based Organizations (CBOs) and Private Sector (businesses), DSA is contacting organizations that may have the capability of distributing disaster related information to survivors in the impacted counties.
  • DSA is asking if organizations are providing disaster related services and/or resources to the general public for immediate and long-term recovery. DSA is gathering situational awareness about impacts to communities.
  • DSA will be conducting outreach in Benton, Boone, Cedar, Jasper, Marshall, Polk, Poweshiek, Scott, Story and Tama counties. Teams conducted outreach in Linn County until Sept. 4.
  • DSA is providing electronic flyers in English, Spanish and other languages on how to register for disaster assistance. DSA is also providing civil rights flyers and an email address for disability integration.
