Event Details

The California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services and FEMA Region 9 legal teams are hosting a tabletop exercise for federal, state, tribal and local attorneys to discuss legal issues that may arise from a catastrophic earthquake impacting the Bay Area.

During the May 23 tabletop, players will exercise legal support from and coordination among attorneys during a catastrophic earthquake along the Hayward Fault. Goals of the exercise include:

  • Raise awareness of potential impacts of catastrophic earthquake and facilitate cross-government coordination
  • Anticipate legal issues that may impede response and recovery efforts
  • Identify potential solutions to the legal issues identified in objective 2
  • Based on potential solutions discussed, identify discrete actions to take in advance of an earthquake to streamline issue resolution
