FEMA will host a virtual tribal consultation on the implementation of the Community Disaster Resilience Zones Act enacted on December 20, 2022. Senior leadership from FEMA’s Grant Programs Directorate (GPD) will lead the consultation. GPD provides grants to prepare state, local, tribal, and territorial governments and first responders, as well as non-profit organizations and port and transit system owners/operators, to measurably improve capability and reduce the risks from manmade and natural disasters.
Event Topics
- How best to include Tribal Lands in zone designations.
- How best to use census data at the census tract level, as required by the law, to include tribal lands within a state.
- Best strategies to communicate designation of Zones.
The purpose of government-to-government tribal consultations is to gather Tribal Nations’ feedback on how to improve the Community Disaster Resilience Zones process across Indian Country.

Written comments in response to the tribal consultation are due by Tuesday, September 5, 2023, and may be submitted to fema-tribal@fema.dhs.gov. Please include the subject line “Community Disaster Resilience Zones – Written Comments.”
The virtual tribal consultation will be held on the Zoom for Government platform and phone.
