2024 Public Comment Period on the National Flood Insurance Program’s Community Rating System – Public Meeting #1
In addition to written comments, FEMA hosted three public virtual meetings to collect verbal comments from the public, including the private sector, government, Tribal Nations, and non-government entities. The meetings were held on Aug. 21 and 22. A public virtual meeting focused on Tribal Nations was held in August 2024.

Event Details
The objectives of these public meetings are to:
- Provide the public with a summary of suggested alternative program features from the Aug. 23, 2021 Request for Information and the exploratory questions included in the corresponding Federal Register Request for Information
- Provide the public with information about how to access the notice and submit written comments
- Provide the public an opportunity to provide verbal feedback
All meetings were open to the public and covered the same content. Participants registered in advance and were confirmed on a first-come, first-served basis. Public meeting participation was capped to 500 attendees.
During registration, a participant could indicate a desire to provide verbal comment for the record during the virtual meeting. Verbal comments were limited to two minutes and become part of the official record.
