Exercise and Preparedness Tools

Preparedness Toolkit (PrepToolkit)

PrepToolkit is an online collaborative environment in which individuals from all levels of government and the private and nonprofit sectors can prepare for risks in their communities and provides an avenue to execute preparedness activities efficiently and easily and to share this work with others.

PrepToolkit provides emergency management professionals the tools to implement the National Preparedness System and embodies FEMA’s mission: Helping People Before, During and After Disasters.

Whole community partners can register by creating a username and password for system access. Usernames and passwords are self‐managed by the user with support from the help desk.

Exercise Starter Kit on Reconstituting Operations

As organizations across the country plan for how to return to full operations and protect the wellbeing and safety of their employees and communities, FEMA’s National Exercise Division and National Continuity Programs have collaborated to develop an Exercise Starter Kit on Reconstituting Operations. This Exercise Starter Kit is designed to be shared across the whole community to help organizations, including government agencies, conduct their own planning workshops to navigate the complexities of returning to full operations during the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.

FEMA also maintains a series of additional Exercise Starter Kits accessed through PrepToolkit and designed to help organizations facilitate their own exercises, such as workshops and tabletop exercises, to examine their readiness for a range of threats and hazards.

Cyber Ready Community Game

FEMA has partnered with cybersecurity experts to develop an engaging strategy board game to explore the dynamics of cyber preparedness. Using gameboards and playing cards, players group within the game “community” to decide how to invest cyber credits to protect essential services.

The community weathers multiple cyber incidents, shares information, and negotiates to prioritize cyber response resources needed to sustain the community’s critical functions. Through game play, players learn aspects of the National Institute of Standards and Technology’s cybersecurity framework.
