Subject: Retirement of Lynn G. Canton, FEMA Regional Administrator, Region II, and Appointment of Acting Regional Administrator MaryAnn Tierney
After two tours of duty as Regional Administrator of FEMA Region II totaling eight years at FEMA and an additional thirty years with the state of New York, Lynn G. Canton plans to retire effective January 25, 2013. President Obama appointed Lynn as FEMA Regional Administrator in February 2010. Over a three year period, she directed response and recovery operations for 25 natural disasters in the Region, administering over $3.2 billion in disaster relief obligations. During March to September 2012, Lynn also graciously served on a detail to FEMA headquarters as Acting Director of the Mission Support Bureau.
Previously Lynn was appointed by President Bill Clinton to serve as Regional Administrator of FEMA Region II. During her service from 1995-2000, she directed response and recovery operations for 16 natural disasters in the region, administering over $2.5 billion in disaster relief obligations. In 2000, Lynn was awarded FEMA’s Senior Executive Peer Award for creating a management council of senior executives with responsibility for financial management, personnel, labor relations, congressional relations, public affairs, intergovernmental affairs, information technology, support services, and disaster response and recovery.

Effective January 25, 2013, MaryAnn Tierney, FEMA Regional Administrator, Region III in Philadelphia will serve as Acting Regional Administrator in FEMA Region II. MaryAnn will also continue to serve in her full time position as career Regional Administrator of FEMA Region III.
