Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Housing Inspectors will be in Kipnuk and Kotlik on Monday, Oct. 10, and Toksook Bay and Koyuk on Tuesday, Oct. 11 to help survivors register for FEMA assistance and perform housing inspections for applicants who experienced damage from the Sept. 15 - 20 severe storms, flooding and landslides.


Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Housing Inspectors will be in Napakiak and Napaskiak on Friday, Oct. 7, Hooper Bay Saturday, Oct. 8 and Nome Friday, Oct. 7 through Saturday, Oct. 8 to help survivors register for FEMA assistance and perform housing inspections for applicants who experienced damage from the Sept. 15 - 20 severe storms, flooding and landslides.

Survivors in the Regional Educational Attendance Areas (REAAs) of Bering Strait, Kashunamiut, Lower Kuskokwim and Lower Yukon affected by the September severe storm, flooding and landslides who received a determination letter from FEMA should make sure to read it carefully. If you received a letter stating you are ineligible for assistance or “no decision” can be made at this time, it may be for a simple matter, such as missing information from your application.

Nearly a month after a federal disaster declaration was made for the severe storm, flooding and landslides that occurred in Western Alaska from Sept. 15 – 20, more than $3 million in federal disaster assistance has been awarded to survivors. Those in the designated Regional Educational Attendance Areas (REAAs) of Bering Strait, Kashunamiut, Lower Kuskokwim and Lower Yukon are eligible to apply for FEMA assistance until Nov. 22.

FEMA has updated the operating hours for the Alaska-specific Disaster Assistance Hotline. Residents in the Regional Educational Attendance Areas of Bering Strait, Kashunamiut, Lower Kuskokwim and Lower Yukon who experienced damage or loss from September’s severe storm, flooding and landslides can call the hotline to apply for FEMA assistance or receive help with an application.
