Orlando, Fla. – The Solid Waste Authority of Palm Beach County will receive a $1,629,623.19 grant through FEMA’s Public Assistance Program to help defray the costs of debris removal in response to Hurricane Irma.On August 23, 2019 the President approved a cost share adjustment authorizing federal funding for Public Assistance at 90 percent of total eligible costs under FEMA-4337-DR-FL declared for Hurricane Irma. The $1.6 million represents an additional 10 percent for the project, previously awarded at 82 percent of eligible costs.

Orlando, Fla. – FEMA is awarding Polk County a $1,130,812.50 Hazard Mitigation grant to fund the purchase and installation of a 1,750 kW generator with 6,000-gallon fuel tank at the Polk Central County Jail. After the installation of the generator, Polk County will be able to continue regular operation of the jail in times of disaster and during future power outages. Funding for this HMGP project is authorized under Section 404 of the Robert T. Stafford Act, helping strengthen communities by improving buildings, facilities and infrastructure that people use every day.

Orlando, Fla. – The Florida Department of Financial Services will receive a $2,556,177 grant to help defray the costs of responding to Hurricane Irma under FEMA’s Public Assistance Program.FEMA funds will reimburse the state for the costs of mobilizing 72 teams of first responders from 57 police, fire and rescue departments around the state. These personnel conducted swift water rescues, responded to citizens calls for fire-fighting assistance or emergency medical assistance, and provided security at shelters and other facilities.
