Midland, Mich. – Don’t get overlooked, get the help you need. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) registration deadline is only three weeks away for residents with damages or losses from storms and flooding June 22-27.Even if you applied with another agency or organization you must register with FEMA by Oct. 2, 2017, if you want to access federal disaster grants and U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) low-interest disaster loans.

Midland, Mich. – Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) disaster assistance grants do not count as income.Survivors who receive federal disaster assistance as a result of the June storms and flooding will not pay additional income taxes or see any reduction in their Social Security checks or any other federal benefits.Grants for essential home repairs, replacement of personal property or other disaster-related needs do not count as income. Donations from charitable organizations will not affect Social Security payments or Medicare benefits.
