COLUMBIA, Mo. -- Disaster officials caution survivors of the recent flooding to be on the lookout for scam artists pretending to be employed by The Federal Emergency Management Agency or another government agency, such as the U.S. Small Business Administration. Authorized FEMA or SBA personnel are required to wear identification at all times, officials say.

COLUMBIA, Mo. -- Missourians who live or work in the six counties under the state's Aug. 12, 2011, presidential disaster declaration may be eligible for unemployment insurance benefits under the Disaster Unemployment Assistance program. Income compensation under DUA is extended to those whose employment was lost or interrupted as a result of flooding from June 1, 2011, to August 1, 2011. The benefits cover those usually not entitled to unemployment insurance.

COLUMBIA, Mo. -- The Federal Emergency Management Agency announced today it will open a Disaster Recovery Center on Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2011, in Lafayette County to help survivors of the recent flooding with their applications for federal and state disaster assistance. The DRC will be located at the Lafayette County Courthouse, 1106 Main St., Lexington, Mo. The DRC will be open from 1 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Aug. 23. After Aug. 23, the DRC will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday.
