WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The head of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) reported today that federal disaster resources have been available to support immediate relief efforts in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands under emergency declarations issued by President Clinton for Hurricane Lenny. FEMA Director James Lee Witt said the President took the action early this evening after receiving from FEMA expedited requests for federal relief from the governors of the hurricane-affected islands.
