February 6, 2012 - News Release

JOPLIN, Mo. -- On February 6, households residing in Federal Emergency Management Agency mobile homes in Joplin dropped below 500, recovery officials said today. Mobile home occupancy peaked at 586 on October 3, 2011.  As of February 6, 491 units are occupied  "This is an encouraging benchmark of the continuing Joplin recovery," Federal Coordinating Officer Stephen Thompson of FEMA, said.  "Housing in Joplin and nearby areas is coming on line and survivors are finding permanent residency."

December 8, 2011 - News Release

COLUMBIA, Mo. -- Missourians with disaster-related unmet needs even after receiving state and federal disaster assistance now can access disaster case management services. The state of Missouri has received a grant of more than $5.3 million to help the long-term recovery of individuals and families affected by the severe storms, tornados and flooding that struck the state this spring, according to federal recovery officials.

December 5, 2011 - News Release

COLUMBIA, Mo. -- At the request of the Missouri Department of Natural Resources (DNR), The Federal Emergency Management Agency will fund the Environmental Protection Agency to assist with the retrieval of orphan drums from Big Oak Tree State Park. Big Oak Tree State Park is located in Mississippi County.

Public Assistance (PA): Disaster grant assistance available for communities to quickly respond to and recover from major disasters or emergencies declared by the President

Emergency Work (Categories A-B): Work that must be performed to reduce or eliminate an immediate threat to life, protect public health and safety, and to protect improved property that is significantly threatened due to disasters or emergencies declared by the President

Permanent Work (Categories C-G): Work that is required to restore a damaged facility, through repair or restoration, to its pre-disaster design, function, and capacity in accordance with applicable codes and standards
