WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Michael D. Brown, Under Secretary of Homeland Security for Emergency Preparedness and Response, today announced that Federal resources are being allocated to support emergency protective response efforts response efforts in the parishes located in the path of Hurricane Katrina.

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Panhandle area Disaster Recovery Centers (DRCs) will temporarily suspend operations until Hurricane Katrina, presently tracking towards the central Gulf Coast area, has made landfall and all danger has passed. All fixed centers will be closed on Monday, Aug. 29. All will remain closed until Hurricane Katrina passes and a safety and security inspection, conducted by the Federal Emergency Management Agency and Florida’s State Emergency Response Team (SERT), has been completed.

ORLANDO, Fla. -- As Tropical Storm Katrina intensifies and heads for the eastern Florida coastline, the state of Florida has activated its Emergency Operations Center in Tallahassee to monitor the storm and begin to put response measures into place. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency supports state and local officials in their efforts, and stands ready to provide federal assistance should it be required.
