KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) recently obligated more than $1.14 million in assistance to the state of Nebraska, to repair and rebuild damaged transmission lines near Lincoln. The damage was a result of the tornadoes in May and the project was approved for the grant assistance a few weeks later.
LINCOLN, Neb. -- Only one week remains until the registration deadline expires for individuals and business owners who were hard hit by the severe storms, tornadoes and flooding that began May 20, 2004. The registration deadline is July 24, 2004. To register for assistance, call the Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA) toll-free number 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or TTY 1-800-462-7585, for speech or hearing impaired individuals. The lines are open Monday through Saturday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

However, when it does happen, The Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has a responsibility to take action. People who intentionally try to defraud the government are taking money away from those who are truly in need. FEMA is obligated to make sure taxpayer dollars go only to those people who sustained legitimate losses. This may include prosecuting anyone who makes a fraudulent claim.
