Environmental Requirements to Apply for FEMA Funding

When a community applies for FEMA funding — such as Public Assistance, Hazard Mitigation Assistance or Preparedness Grants — potential impacts to the environment and cultural resources must be considered.

Risk Mapping, Assessment and Planning (Risk MAP) is a national FEMA program that works with states, tribes, territories and local communities to evaluate and better understand their current flood risk, as well as the actions that can be taken to mitigate and become more resilient against future risk.

HONOLULU – Government agencies, public institutions and certain private nonprofit organizations such as houses of worship have until Wednesday, Oct. 25, to submit their Requests for Public Assistance funding to the Hawai‘i Emergency Management Agency for damage caused by the Aug. 8 wildfires.

FEMA is committed to helping all eligible survivors recover from the Aug. 8 Maui wildfires, including U.S. citizens, non-citizen nationals and qualified non-citizens. Survivors who do not qualify for federal assistance may still call the FEMA Helpline at 800-621-3362 for referrals to other sources of aid.

As of 11: 20 a.m. (ET) today, Typhoon Bolaven was 75 miles northwest of Tinian and Saipan in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI), with maximum sustained winds of 85 mph. The storm is moving at 12 mph away from the islands. Bolaven will rapidly intensify later today and tomorrow into a Category 4 typhoon as it turns into the open ocean.

Bolaven Update: As of 1 p.m., Bolaven has been upgraded to a typhoon with maximum sustained winds of 80 mph. On its current track, Typhoon Bolaven is anticipated to pass north of Rota, between Rota and Tinian.
