CLANTON, AL – FEMA and the state of Alabama are opening a disaster recovery center in Coosa County to assist tornado survivors. The center will open at 1 p.m. local time, Jan. 27, and will provide one-on-one help to people affected by the Jan.12 severe storms, straight-line winds and tornadoes.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) recently approved about $422 million to restore and renovate 37 residential properties belonging to the Public Housing Administration (PHA) due to damage caused by Hurricane María. These works will benefit over 5,400 families throughout the island.

The maps identify revised flood hazards along the Lower Gila River, Agua Fria River, Centennial Wash and nearby tributaries. The new maps will help building officials, contractors and homeowners make effective mitigation decisions, thereby contributing to safer and more disaster resilient communities.
