FEMA and the U.S. Small Business Administration have approved $4.9 million in federal assistance for survivors of Hurricane Ian, which hit South Carolina in Sept. 2022.
Recovery by the Numbers
FEMA’s Public Assistance (PA) is a federal grant program administered by FEMA and managed at the state level by the Alabama Emergency Management Agency (AEMA).
Congress directed FEMA to create the Hermit’s Peak/Calf Canyon Claims Office to disburse $3.95 billion provided in compensation to claimants affected by the Hermit’s Peak/Calf Canyon Fire. The Hermit’s Peak/Calf Canyon Fire Assistance Act is separate from, and different than, disaster assistance provided by FEMA and by the low-interest disaster loans provided by the Small Business Administration (SBA) in the immediate aftermath of the fire.
Before landfall, federal resources were positioned to respond immediately to Hurricane Ian. Here is a timeline of preparations and federal support to Floridians in response to the storm and recovery nearly six months later.
Some residents of the eight Georgia counties listed below who have received initial FEMA rental assistance because of damage to their homes from the Jan. 12 storms and tornadoes may be eligible for continued rental assistance.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) Public Assistance (PA) Program supports State, Local, Tribal, and Territorial (SLTT) governments, and certain types of private nonprofit (PNP) organizations. Through this program, FEMA provides supplemental grant assistance for debris removal, emergency protective measures, and the restoration of disaster-damaged, publicly owned facilities and specific facilities of certain Private Non-Profit organizations. It also encourages protection from future incident with cost-effective mitigation measures for disaster-damaged facilities.
As eligible Georgia homeowners and renters begin receiving disaster funds from FEMA for rental assistance, home repairs or other categories of assistance, it is important to keep track of your spending. Use the money for the specified reason stated in the FEMA letter.
