National Police Week honors men, women in law enforcement

From Janet Napolitano, Secretary, DHS

Each May, we come together during National Police Week to honor the men and women of our nation’s law enforcement community and to remember those who have given their lives in the line of duty.

At DHS, we honor our colleagues who serve on the front lines, defending our nation from threats of all kinds. And we also recognize those throughout the department who work tirelessly each day to support state and local law enforcement and ensure the security of our homeland. We offer our condolences to the families, friends, and loved ones of those who we have lost in the line of duty.

As we all commemorate National Police Week, starting this evening at the 25th Annual Candlelight Vigil at the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington D.C., please join me in paying tribute to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country and thanking our dedicated DHS law enforcement professionals for their steadfast service and commitment to the Department and to our nation.
