FEMA announced that federal disaster assistance has been made available to the state of Mississippi to supplement state, tribal and local recovery efforts in the areas affected by severe storms, straight-line winds and tornadoes on March 24-25, 2023.

Homeland Security Secretary, FEMA Administrator to Travel to Mississippi Following Devastating Tornadoes
Following Friday night’s devastating tornadoes that swept across Mississippi, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro N. Mayorkas and FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell will travel to the state Sunday to survey the damage and meet with state and local officials.

The Smithsonian Institution and FEMA Co-host a Disaster Simulation for Protecting Cultural Artifacts
Without proper disaster planning, the safety and security of those we care about and the things we cherish may be in jeopardy. While each of us can take small steps to protect ourselves and our loved ones, preserving important items can require special attention and planning. That’s why FEMA has partnered with the Smithsonian Institution to help protect cultural heritage artifacts across the country through the Heritage Emergency National Task Force (HENTF).
