    FEMA disaster recovery centers provide assistive devices for people with disabilities and others with access and functional needs that help them recieve information in their preferred method of communication.  This fact sheet provides information about the various accessible communication technologies that are available for disaster survivors.

  • Language Guidelines for Inclusive Emergency Preparedness

    FEMA is committed to working towards emergency management language and practices that are inclusive of people with disabilities, and recognizes the power of language in setting the stage for successful “whole community” efforts. This document is a guideline for inclusive, people-first language for referring to people with disabilities and other with access and functional needs.

  • Interagency Coordinating Council on Emergency Preparedness and Individuals with Disabilities (ICC) Reports

    Executive Order 13347 established the Interagency Coordinating Council on Emergency Preparedness and Individuals with Disabilities (ICC), directing more than 25 Federal executive departments and agencies to work together to ensure that emergency preparedness plans incorporate the perspectives and needs of individuals with disabilities, and that barriers to their access to services and planning are removed. The Executive Order designates the Secretary of Homeland Security as chair; the Secretary has in turn designated that role to the FEMA Administrator. FEMA's Office of Disability Integration and Coordination (ODIC) coordinates the ICC.
