The private sector is a vital part of the emergency management team. We see the nation's vast network of business, industry, academia, trade associations, and other non-governmental organizations as equal - and equally responsible - partners in every phase from preparedness to response and recovery to mitigation
The prepardness and analysis branch works with individual and community preparedness, tribal programs, continuity of operations programs, and the presidential preparedness directive.
The Region 9 Response Division coordinates and provides the core Federal disaster response capability needed to save lives, reduce suffering, and protect property in communities.
The Recovery Division oversees several program areas including Individual Assistance, Public Assistance, the National Disaster Recovery Framework, and Environmental & Historical Preservation. These programs are intended to assist individuals and communities affected by presidentially declared disasters to rebuild, recover, and protect against future hazards.
Mitigation creates safer communities by reducing losses of life and property; enables individuals and communities to recover more rapidly from disasters; and lessens the financial impact of disasters on the Federal Treasury, States, Tribes, and communities.
The FEMA earthquake program’s mission is to develop, disseminate, and promote knowledge, tools, and practices for earthquake risk reduction.
The Grants Management Division is responsible for providing grant guidance to state, local and tribal governments, fire departments, non-governmental organizations and citizen groups.
The Mission Support division handles employee services such as recruiting, retention, evaluations, and hiring and to enhance workforce capability, engagement, and provide outstanding service.
The Student Volunteer Employment Program hires students to work at the FEMA as volunteers for valuable work experience directly related to their academic field of study.
The FEMA Pacific Area Office (PAO) was established in 1993 to support mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery efforts for “all-hazards” with Emergency Management & Civil Defense.
