At FEMA's request, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) will do tests for formaldehyde in a total of 500 trailers and mobile homes provided by FEMA. CDC will test trailers and mobile homes in Louisiana and in Mississippi to learn more about the amount of formaldehyde in them. What is CDC trying to find out from these tests? CDC is testing the air in trailers and mobile homes to learn how much formaldehyde may be in the air in them. Results from these tests will also help FEMA help residents with housing options. How will trailers and mobile homes be picked for testing? A computer will pick the trailers and mobile homes. Every trailer or mobile home has the same chance of being picked. CDC can not take volunteers for the tests. If the computer picks your trailer or mobile home for testing, CDC will call you and ask if you would like to be part of the study. If you agree to take part in the study: • You will be asked to tell us your name, address, and if you or a family member smokes inside the trailer or mobile home. • CDC will call you to set a time for the test which will take about one and one half hours. • CDC will give FEMA and you the results so that they can work with you to take steps to protect the health of everyone living in the trailer or mobile home. How will CDC tell people the results of the tests? You will receive the results of the trailer and mobile home testing when all tests have been completed. If you have any questions about health concerns, air quality in your mobile home or trailer, or formaldehyde, please call CDC toll-free at 1-800-CDC-INFO If you have questions about moving out of your trailer, please call FEMA toll-free at 1-866-562-2381 or (TTY 1-800-462-7585).
