Fact Sheet HURRICANE RITA FUNDING STATUS, VERMILION PARISH Public Assistance Funding for Vermilion Parish and State Payout, Sept. 18, 2007 Total federal funds obligated: $34.9 million Some of this public assistance funding went into the following Vermilion Parish projects: * Vermilion Parish School Board – Eighteen of the parish’s 20 schools have been repaired or are nearing completion. FEMA has provided $25.7 million for repairs and temporary facilities. * Vermilion Parish Waterworks – FEMA has obligated more than $564,000 to repair the water distribution system for the Esther and Forked Island areas. The system serves 1,500 people. * Vermilion Parish Intercoastal City Fire Sub-Station – Hurricane Rita destroyed this fire station. FEMA has granted more than $139,000 to replace the facility. (MORE) Hazard Mitigation Funding for Vermilion Parish, Sept. 18, 2007 Total Hazard Mitigation funds obligated: $112,500 This mitigation funding went into the following project: * Planning Grant – $112,500 of the funding was obligated to help Vermilion Parish update its existing hazard mitigation plan. Individual Assistance Funding for Vermilion Parish, Sept. 18, 2007 Total Individual Assistance funding: $41.8 million Active Leases in Vermilion Parish by Site Type * 8,653 Vermilion Parish residents have been provided with rental assistance. * Residents have received a total of $13 million in Other Needs Assistance, which may include money for personal property, vehicle replacement, funeral, medical and dental assistance. * There are currently 606 households living in FEMA direct housing who were Vermilion Parish residents prior to the hurricanes.
